BEETHOVEN  String Quartet op 18 no 4 in C minor
BARTOK     String Quartet no 5
BORODIN    String Quartet no 2 in D major

We’re delighted to start our 75th Anniversary year with a welcome return of one of today’s leading string quartets. The Carduccis open their concert with one of the classics of the string quartet repertoire, written in the key which Beethoven reserved for highly dramatic works – most famously the fifth symphony. Bartok’s deeply thoughtful penultimate quartet, with its eerie and contemplative moods, leads us nicely on to contrasting 75th anniversary interval celebrations! The evening concludes with one of the great romantic works – which Borodin dedicated to his wife. The famous ‘Notturno’ third movement features, in song form, in the Broadway musical ‘Kismet’.
