Called to serve God by increasing awareness of His presence and declaring His love

U3A (1:15pm)

Date:
Time:

Our monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month in Stokesley Methodist Church, unless specifically noted below. The programme is as follows:

1.15 p.m. Doors open. Tea and coffee are available and there is time to read the group notice boards, talk to group leaders, register for group events etc. Each month one of our groups organises the coffee.

2.00 p.m. There is a talk in the main hall (typically about 45 minutes to 1 hour) by a guest speaker, followed by notices about the general business of the U3A and notices from the various groups.

3.00 p.m. Another chance to see the group notice boards, and register for activities before the doors close at 3.30 p.m.

Today’s talk is entitled ‘Prime Ministers Through the Eyes of Cartoonists’ by Tony Daniels. The office of Prime Minister and political cartoons both became established in 1720s. They have grown alongside each other and established a love-hate relationship right up to the present day. By being witty, amusing and acerbic, the cartoonist is using humour to great effect: it is laughter that can ruffle the mighty.

Tony will illustrate how cartoonists have lampooned our leaders.
